So yesterday I got up the courage to go to the GLBT Centre on campus, and I'm glad I did. It's a really nice place with a small library on one side and a lounge on the other. So I stuck to the library end for awhile, just reading a couple books. The first book was an anthology of Sci Fi. What was shocking was I had somehow read the first story already O_o
I then put the 1st book back and started one on Same-Sex "Marriage" throughout history. It was quite interesting, but... not as helpful to my psyche(or whatever the word I'm using AND spelling wrong is...) as Bruce Bawer's book on the growth of "Fundamental" Christianity in the US in the past. Anyway, I'm babbling... >_>
When a lot of people (ie the lunch crowd) had left, I timidly moved over to the lounge. (Amusingly, there was 1 person (now person #1) that I knew already from eating lunch in the caf last year.). People there are very friendly, though a couple of people there I found rather intimidating at first, but that's purely due to judging a book by it's cover. Bad Kitarou! Bad~! Errr >_>...)
Then, it turns out a person who was in 2 of my classes last semester is a Work-Study there. (Person #2, for reference.). Through #2 I was able to get talking to a few people. 1 person is in 3rd year Nihongo(Japanese Language)... (Person-I-Just-Met A), and another who didn't stick in the conversation long likes anime as well (Person-I-Just-Met B. And if my memory is not mistaken, this is the person I saw at the movies tonight, but we won't go into that on this journal :P)
Anyway, I was hanging around the lounge awhile with A, (B was around, but... I mean I barely had talked to him, if at all. I'm shy around people I don't know, and do a lot of listening. Deal with it.). It was a fun and amusing time. Eventually someone I knew from a class last year (Person #3) came in ... I was quite shocked, but I didn't really say anything to him, though we were in the same conversation. I didn't realize until later that night (during Anime) that he was who I had been talking to on AIM... Stupid me. Anyway, I hope that he wasn't too shocked seeing me there, heh.
Oh, and person from another service centre who I expected would end up being there was there. (Person #4). And another person I know was talked about. Small world. :D
So yeah, I stayed there way too long cuz I have no class Friday afternoon but have to stay to run anime... 5 hours spent socializing. Considering how anti-social I am, this is progress or something.
My confidence level has bounced up a fair bit, which is a good thing. There's nothing for me to worry about. The school year ends in April, I leave for my year in Japan in September anyway, and when I get back for my last year, any problems I have would be gone :P
Edit: I keep on forgeting my LJ client is in beta, and I can't turn off the disallow comments. Grr. Fixed now.
